What are mast cell tumors?

Mast cell tumors (mcts) happen mostly on the skin but sometimes in the internal organs. Mast cells themselves are normal cells that are found in nearly all organs and tissues of your dog's body. Mast cells are cells that reside in the connective tissues, especially those vessels and nerves that are closest to the external surfaces (e.g., skin, lungs, nose, mouth). They are normal components of the immune system, but can form into growths called mast cell tumorsn (mct).
